Just as a side note, Phil Harvey's ExifTool can extract JPEGs from a
wide variety of RAW formats:
http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/
That does relieve the burden of hacking every RAW format, while adding a
dependency. I guess it's a trade-off.
My first thought is to make it fail gracefully if exiftool is not where
it's supposed to be so that the KImageDatabase could preview RAWs if
exiftool is found, and skip if not.
I don't know how clean this is in the latest version of exiftool.
