[KimDaBa] Ouch! (data loss)

I just hit a real nasty. I was trying to sort the images, and got a
dialog box warning me of an MD5sum failure and suggesting that I
recalculate the MD5 checksums. I then saved and exited. When I
restarted, I had lost most of my images. They weren't deleted from
disk, but they were lost from my index.xml file.

It wasn't just the first N images from my index.xml that were lost; I
can't find a particular pattern.
