I prefer this one.
Amarok (to audio what KimDaBa is to image management) has a feature
where you can customize what appears in the pop-up (and also where it
sits on the screen). So you bang in something like:
%Artist% - {%Album%}
%Songname% - %Length%
Stuff in braces {} is only displayed if the data exists. CR's are
respected.
Something like this, with the default set to what's currently showing
with the ctrl-i thing, would work really well. A plug-in-ish approach
would make it easier to add in things like resolution, file size,
path, etc. For people who want less information, the customizable
format approach means they can strip out things they don't want
to see. Entirely unsure how easy it would be to rip out the 'put the
box right here' code from Amarok, say. Transparency and other
features are .. swanky, but make people go 'oooh ahhh' and then run
off and grab a Debian CD. Which is no bad thing.
But I appear to be rambling, which probably is.
