Is it a German (or at least not an English) version you are using? If it
is, try changing your language within kcontrol (KDE control center) to
English and see if this fixes your problem.

Note: setting LC_MESSAGES to "en" doesn't seem to work, is this a kimdaba
or a KDE/Qt problem/feature? Does anybody know?

If the above solves your problem, you could either update to a recent
snapshot where this problem should be fixed or change your KDE language
settings.
