Worse (and very interesting): the debian package "kdepim" (4.4) was simply not
installed. So I installed it and it works. Thanks!

#aptitude install kdepim
The following NEW packages will be installed:
blogilo{a} kdepim kdepim-groupware{a} kdepim-strigi-plugins{a}
kdepim-wizards{a} ktimetracker{a}

One of those packages made the difference. I guess debian should look at the
dependencies of kontact (kdepim is a metapackage which depends on everything
else). It's rather difficult for mere users to understand exactly what they
need...
