Thanks. For reference to others, this workaround suggests adding:

[Migration]
Enabled=false

to ~/.kde4/share/config/kres-migratorrc. Unfortunately, nothing is said about
the implications of this change, so as far as I'm concerned, it might have some
destructive side-effects (e.g. when upgrading to a new version of KDE).
