I can confirm this.  I use remotely hosted ICS calendars, and multiple error
boxes appear when I'm offline.  I think option 3 above is relatively simple to
implement but reasonable.  People know that when they're offline, they're not
going to get updates.  So let them opt out of these type of errors.
