According to RFC 2445 4.8.5.1
The value=date part is valid, but it seems other iCal software don't handle it
well.

When you create an iCal file with this format Mozilla Sunbird, for example,
still shows the exception.
But when you alter it to a date-time format (the default specified by the RFC).
The exception is recognized.

Examples:
Doesn't work in other software:
EXDATE;VALUE=DATE:20090101
Does work in other software:
EXDATE:20090101T010000Z

Altough this seems to be a bug in other software it may be a good idea to use
this default behaviour anyway.
