More details:
1) Opening the events that still exist in the calendar (events on and after 16-April), I see that in Recurrence -> Exceptions that the exceptions from previous months are still in place. For instance, on 12-March the event occurred one hour early. Sure enough, when I check 12-March in the calendar, I see that the 12-March event still is shown on the calendar.
2) I had suspected that recreating the event exactly as it was, on it's first occurrence, would merge itself with the existing entries and exceptions. Unfortunately, this was not the case.
