As there is no other way of renaming ICQ contacts than going via the ICQ
profile info dialog (hm, okay you can do that via meta contacts but then I
think it is not valid for other icq programs and still a dialog though) you
often end up in not renaming a user because in this dialog by default Cancel is
the default button which is triggered by pressing Enter rather than OK.
