I started experiencing the same problem just today on Sabayon Linux (kde 4.4.1 
- kopete 1.0.0). Until yesterday's upgrade kopete was working fine but today it
started to crash systematically because of a segmentation fault (Sig 11) when I
attempt to log onto MSN. I launched it from the terminal with the command
kopete --nofork as I read somewhere and fwiw this is the terminal output

then the KDE application crash dialog box pops up indicating a segmentation
fault.

It doesn't crash when I log onto my yahoo messenger account though.
