Summary: file transfer fails with enabled otr encryption
Product: kopete
Version: unspecified
Platform: Archlinux Packages
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: general
AssignedTo: kopete-bugs at kde.org
ReportedBy: peerit at gmail.com
Version: 1.0.0 (using KDE 4.4.1)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Archlinux Packages
My cousin and me are using OTR encryption plugins for messaging. While I'm on
Kopete he is using Pidgin on Windows. Whenever we want to exchange files we
need to stop the OTR-encrypted session first and then initialize the file
transfer. Otherwise no connection can be established between us.
It has been this way as long as I can remember using OTR. It is pretty annoying
because you always have to stop writing in both directions so that the OTR
session is not automatically restarted. It was also very hard to find the cause
for those failing file transfers because we always blamed wrong configured
portforwarding/client incompatibilities and things like that.
It also seems IM protocol independent. Its the same on jabber and ICQ. I think
this shouldn't be hard to fix. At least you could temporarily suspend the otr
session when a file transfer is started or incoming.
