I have same issue with kopete:
Version 0.80.2
Using KDE 4.3.4 (KDE 4.3.4)

I noticed strange behavior, kopete worked before, but after some soft update it
doesn't. After research I found that switched on proxy, "Manual" option, breaks
yahoo connection. When I switch off proxy in konqueror - yahoo connects again.
Checked several times the behavior.
