Well maybe Qt detect the timeout and not kernel but something will disconnect
the connection when it's broken but the problem is that it takes long time and
this is problem for IM. 

I don't know exactly how ssh works buy I know you can't do this in IM protocols
because the server will close the session automatically after some period of
time and you have to relogin.
