It's possible to use a non-hotmail account in Windows Live Messenger, by
creating a Passport ID for an existing e-mail account.

It's also possible to use a non-gmail account in Google Talk, by creating a
Google Account for an existing e-mail account and following these instructions:

I followed the instructions above and now I can use Google Talk with my
non-gmail account, but... When I try to use this account in Kopete,
authentication "fails with unknown reason".
