I have same problem.
I change line with security in /etc/samba/smb.conf to:
security = share
After restart PC winpopup go online

The problem is if you have other line security (f.e security = user) program
"smbclient -N -g -L localhost" has no output line with
"SERVER|PC_NAME|PC_DESCRIPTION" and this plugin use this line. If it doesnt
exist, winpopup is in offline mode.
