The patch works for me.

I have a patched copy of kopete in my PPA if you use (K)Ubunutu 9.04 
http://ppa.launchpad.net/kachristmas/ppa/ubuntu/pool/main/k/kdenetwork/

I built against KDE 4.2.4 found in the kubuntu-ppa
