The "Windows Live Messenger" protocol in Kopete for KDE4.2 is now based in the
"libmsn" library. (I don't know if Kopete keeps the old protocol and code for
MSN, I think it doesn't, because one time I compiled Kdenetwork without having
installed the "libmsn" lib, and the WLM protocol wasn't compiled)
Kubuntu seems to have "libmsn" (at least in the test/unstable repo, and
assuming you are using KDE4.2, it should be there)

Anyways, if you said you had experience this in Kopete prior to KDE4.2 this may
be a bug in Kopete itself (not in the protocol).
