I con confirm that this feature is still absent for kde 4.3.3.
Opening ymsgr is the only feature which keeps me using pidgin over kopete.

In my company we use yahoo messenger for communication and quiet often on
interacting with another person we just use the ymsgr link for a quick chat.

I am surprised that none of the devs have found a use case for this feature for
over 4 years
