I can confirm this is happening on KDE 4.3.0 on Gentoo.
No ping messages sent by the server, Kopete disconnects after half an hour.
This is without any XML stanza exchanges between the client and the server,
according to the Kopete XML console. I the XMPP server configured to send a
white space character to the clients every 3 minutes. Removing this didn't
change anything. Also, a quick look at iptraf shows that there is some exchange
of packets between the client and the server, possibly the '\0x0a' sent by
Kopete that you mention (I don't have time to study the traffic more now, cause
I found no easy way to disable TLS in Kopete).
I tried to disable stream compression on the server, but it had no effect. So
far the only thing I haven't changed is TLS, so IMHO this should be
reproducible
on any recent jabberd2 installation with TLS enabled.
Kopete 0.70.90
KDE 4.3.00
Gentoo ebuilds, amd64 platform, and I have jingle compiled in. I don't know
what else could be relevant.
The server is running jabberd2 2.2.8
