Kopete doesn't changes the avatar.
i click on the avatar box in the contact list, or from the msn settings, i
select "add avatar", i browse a local file, and it doesn't adds the avatar.
I ran kopete from a terminal and it says:

QPainter::begin: Cannot paint on a null pixmap
QPainter::end: Painter not active, aborted
