Modal behavior in password dialogs is still present in Kopete 0.12.7 (Using KDE 3.5.9) but the password dialogs are not modal (allowing you to cancel in any order you want) in Kopete 0.50.80 (Using KDE 4.00.83). Thus, the bug described in the title is fixed in the Kopete 0.5x series.

The last paragraph is indeed "another problem". If the problem is still present, I suggest filing a separate bug report. (I don't know how to fake a disconnection, or I would have tested it.)
