The following 4 facts are well known:

check "Use protocol encryption (SSL)" checkbox
 check "Allow plain-text password authentication" checkbox
 check "override default server information" checkbox
 and set server to "talk.google.com"
 port 5223 (not 5222 as stated on their web siteexternal link).

Why do you still have the server and, ssl different in the _default_ kopete
dialog. 

Every user has to google and find the above page and then change it to use
google chat. why not make the default settings usable for an _ordinary_ user.
