I have had the same problem with two different systems running Mandriva 2009.
One is an Acer laptop Inspire 5520 with a built in cam and the other uses an
Asus VK222 with a built in cam.  Both work fine with Mandriva 2008.1 using
kopete 0.12.9.  I've tried the release for KDE4 and KDE3.5 and neither will
recognize the cameras when every other camera software works fine.  The Asus is
identified as Asus USB 2.0 Webcam by vendor: Chicony Electronics Co. Inc. and
the on the Acer laptop as: crystal eye webcam.  The point being that both
worked  with Kopete 3.5.9 and neither work now with the later versions.
