Same problem here.
Have highlight configured and checked for: "Enable sound for highlights".
Using any system sound such as: /usr/share/sounds/KDE-Sys-Log-In-Long.ogg
Text does highlight but no sound even though option is checked and "test sound"
button does play the sound.

Running Kubuntu on a Dell Inspiron 660.

Any suggestions?
