I right click icon in system tray -> global away

did not know about auto away, eventually found it and it is set to the
defaults: \
- auto away checked, 
-15 minutes 
- automatically return checked. 
If it automatically went away it was never indicated in tray, if bringing up
app window disables global away then maybe that is my problem. Disabled auto
away and will retest
