the main difficulty is that is takes a very long time to load the list. I often
have connection trouble, or only use konvi for a short period of time, so this
is frequently an issue.

My primary use for the channel list is to find a channel whose name I know but
need to verify because I can't remember some detail, e.g. ##php vs. #php -- to
check and see if a named channel exists. It is really a drag to have to open a
new tab for that, and wait for the entire list to load, in order to make a
query about one channel.

certainly the tab is superior for the output of a simple command of /list
