I've fixed a bug that prevented Konvi from getting the correct IP from the server during reconnects on the Freenode IRC network a couple of month back in the SVN version. Sounds like you're hitting the same problem here. I'll keep this open for  now; if you can get a SVN checkout to test (see http://konversation.kde.org/wiki/SVN) or eventually upgrade to 0.20 and the problem disappears, please inform us.
