have you guys seen "Conversation" under OSX ? 

they put the notify list along with the channel list on a left pane.
just like a contact list ala kopete.

i think it is a good idea, but if you don't like this,... maybe putting the notify list under the people list would be a good idea.

quick access to who is online, open a query, etc.
