Variable width font support on KDE Konsole

Konsole on Kubuntu 20.04 ( Konsole-19.12.3, KDE FX 5.68.0, Qt 5.12.8) does
not support  variable width fonts (eg. indic language fonts) and renders it
as monospace. This results in unreadable output. However,  Konsole on
Kubuntu 18.04 (konsole -17.12.13,  KDE fx  - 5.61.0, QT 5.12.3) is
rendering correctly.

Can some help me understand what changed? Is it fixable?
