This one is new to me, I have overlooked it the whole time. This indeed
resolves the issue.

The now ensuing question is, why is the background blurred in the first place,
if this checkbox, which controls Konsole's background transparency, is not
checked by default.

This is obviously just confusing and IMHO not the correct behavior either.
