I'm not sure if you're just over-engineering this... It surely looks quite
simple in other terminals (terminology, for example). 
I think you're actually thinking about the entire terminal-concept the wrong
way. A terminal shouldn't be anything more than a TextView widget that receives
data from the shell and displays it.
And I'm pretty sure a TextView can handle text reflow perfectly :)
