Bug ID: 306372
Severity: wishlist
Version: 2.8.4
Priority: NOR
Assignee: konsole-devel at kde.org
Summary: On demand saving and loading named sessions (like in
Kate)
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Linux
Reporter: anidev.aelico at gmail.com
Hardware: openSUSE RPMs
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Component: general
Product: konsole
I use Kate and Konsole a lot, and often have many tabs open in both, for file
editing in Kate and having different terminals in Konsole. In Kate, I can save
the current tabs and the files they contain in a named session, and then load
that specific session from the Sessions menu in Kate, or even type it into
Krunner and open kate with that session, versus just loading whatever tabs were
open last time I shutdown. Recently I've been wondering if I can't do the same
thing in Konsole, because I find myself reopening the same tabs every time I
boot. I've read online the KDE3.5 had the ability to store and load named
sessions of tabs, their path, and their environment, but I couldn't find that
anywhere in the Konsole I have (2.8.4, KDE 4.8.4). I was reading this bug
report: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=152761 which is about saving the
current session before shutting down or closing, and that part works fine -
when I reboot Konsole (usually) has the tabs I had before. However I couldn't
figure out how to save multiple different sessions for different groups of
tabs, since I often jump between projects. I understand that Konsole has a
--session argument, but I don't know how that works or how different sessions
can be saved with specific IDs. Also, the linked bug report is from KDE 4.2,
and since this feature hasn't been implemented yet in 4.8.4, I thought I file a
bug report to see what other people think.
Reproducible: Always
