My previous failed attempt was on ArchLinux. I just tried it with Ubuntu 11.10
in a real machine(using driver from nvidia) and Kubuntu 11.10 in virtualbox,
but still failed to reproduce or notice the problem. Both cases were using
totally brand new and clean accounts.

Could you please check whether the problem is reproducible when using a new
account with clean configuration?
