Every terminal I found uses xterm except for MacOSX terminal.app (which is set
to xterm-256colors and allows the user to pick from 6 different terms).

Perhaps putting a combo box under the 'Environment' box would allow greater
visibility.

I would be more inclined to allow the user to change it easily instead of
having to deal w/ verifying the system has it (on every platform/distro).

Any patches would be appreciated.
