The pipe was only one example. Same thing would happen with && , with ||, with
open parenthesis, and probably other cases...

The reason why I proposed to only show the first few and the last few lines was
to cover the case where pages and pages have been selected, which would not be
easily showable in a dialog box. The main goal here would not be to allow
detailed examination of the text to be pasted, but rather to spot gross
confusions (such as, user selecting a small amount of text from a web page, but
then slipping with the mouse and accidentally selecting something else)

Indeed, this is very important for power users
