I think it's not just a KDE issue. It is also possible to crash the system
resizing gnome-terminal - though you have to try a lot harder! lol.

As a temporary work around, you can reduce the risk of total system seizure by
disabling desktop effects. But you will still get nasty desktop artefacts.

Seems the problem is due to some unfortunate interaction between the latest
NVIDIA drivers and the latest XOrg x-windowing system. Lots of people are
having the same problem:-

Sadly it seem there is no proper fix on the horizon and all the key players,
NVIDIA, Xorg and Canonical all seem very silent on the matter.
