Right, at least to the best of my knowledge.

Sorry, I can't see any problem in your screenshot. I've magnified it several
times (you can do it yourself in GIMP or your app of choice) and it's clear
that both glyphs have the same "thinkness". The problem is likely atialiasing:
atialiased parts of glyphs are dark and thus invisible on your background. As
soon as you highlight the text, those antialiased pixels become visible and the
glyph may appear bolder. Disable antialiasing (at least temporarily), and the
effect should vanish.

If you were using light background (instead of the dark one), the effect would
be opposite: when you highlight the text, it would appear thinner.
