The code change mentioned in comment #18 is 3years 5mo old - has this bug
really been around that long?  I didn't think so.  Also, changing the code to
remove that section doesn't appear to have any effect for me.

The space stripping is already being done to active lines on the screen.  My
patch does it to both active and history lines, which is at least consistent,
if not entirely correct.  It is though, as you say, preferable to the current
situation.

I'm not sure konsole can handle extra spaces at the ends of lines properly as
written though.  It appears that it writes spaces directly into the line data
to act as clear characters, rather than handling clearing as a separate
operation.  Has it ever been able to do this?  It doesn't now:

E.g.:

[orion at orca ~]$ echo "     "


Select the "output" and you'll get nothing.
