I'm also having this problem on archlinux x86_64, kdemod 4.3.1. So I think this
is not resolved, and not limited to Ubuntu packages.
I'm using Vim, and as a quick and dirty workaround I have defined a key to
toggle mouse support in Vim, exactly as explained in
http://vim.wikia.com/wiki/Managing_set_options
