All new development happens in KDE 4.  The final KDE 3 release was 3.5.10 in
August 2008.  You did not mention which version of KDE 4 your last used - if it
was 4.1 or earlier then it might be worth giving 4.3 a try as the look, feel
and polish improved somewhat since then.

With regards to your original report the ZModem functionality in Konsole is
still quite primitive, I think the state in KDE 4 is roughly what was there in
KDE 3.
