Confirmed. It seems to take some time catching up (~3 seconds?!).

Another testcase, which is more annoying:
1. in the current tab start "find / > /dev/null"
2. after a few seconds (while find still runs) open a new tab

The new tab gets opened in a random directory, probably where find is looking
currently.
