The recommended way to close tabs in the terminal is with the keyboard, either
Ctrl+D or Ctrl+Shift+W. The long winded route is via File -> Close Tab.

We tried adding close buttons on tabs at some point in KDE 4.1.x development
but it ended up causing a lot of frustration for people who closed tabs
accidentally. This isn't a huge deal in a web browser where modern browsers
provide easy 'undo close tab' functionality but in a terminal this was more
annoying.
