This feature falls victim to the same problem that prevents shift+drag 
from marking selections under mouse-aware console apps.  When I create a 
KDE4 session directly from kdm, it's not operational.  If I log in as a 
different user and create a session under my own id from the user switch 
dialog, it then works just fine.

See one of my earlier posts in this topic for the precise steps.  It would 
be great if someone could find and fix the underlying bug (hint, hint).
