KDE was updated two days ago from vanilla KDE in Kubuntu Jaunty by adding this
repo:

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main

It's advertised here: http://www.kubuntu.org/news/kde-4.2.4

I'd like to stress that in Jaunty's vanilla KDE it works fine.
