This does not appear to a Konsole bug after all, and I feel foolish because it
was so easy to prove that... it happens in other applications as well
(Thunderbird, Firefox text fields, etc.)

I don't know whether I got used to it or whether the problem went away... I
shall have to take another close look. Either way, it looks like something that
is either KDE 4.2-related (must not be as you'd notice it) or something about
Kubuntu. 

I'm using English, though it likely doesn't matter anymore. :)
