That option already exists.  Go to Settings -> Edit Current Profile.  You can
specify an initial directory for new sessions or specify that new sessions
should open in the same directory as the previous tab.

Do you mean that the terminal window hangs (ie. the menu items become
unresponsive) or that the new session never starts (ie. the terminal window
remains blank)?
