Hi Paul,

I haven't seen aafire before, thanks for pointing it out.  That demo doesn't
run smoothly for me on any terminal (xterm, gnome-terminal or Konsole) once the
fire fills the screen.  xterm is the smoothest, as you'd expected because the
text rendering is more simplistic.  Konsole follows and gnome-terminal is the
least smooth. 

What graphics card/driver combination are you using?
