I agree with this wish, the current behaviour makes switching tabs with the mouse scroll wheel imposible if one of the tabs is in search mode.

It also makes more sense having the search panel just next to the terminal output, not separated by the tab bar.

Maybe it's even possible to make its position configurable like any toolbar: dragging it you can select between placing it above or below the tab bar, below the menu bar, on a flotant popup window, etc.
