Because nobody got around to reviewing and committing it.  Thank-you for providing the patch, sometimes it is necessary to chase the developers up until it gets committed.

You mentioned that the patch uses the "old interface".  Is it possible to update it to use the "new interface" instead?  I prefer not to write new code against deprecated interfaces if possible.
